Takamatsu International Airport
2013年11月14日
In August this year, we 4 bloggers from Taiwan, Korea, China and yours truly from Tasmania were on assignment to cover the Takamatsu International Airport. Gee, this is a beautiful well-appointed airport and whilst not a fulltime international airport, there are an increasing number of charter flights to Taipei, Shanghai & Seoul.
Domestic routes are chiefly to Tokyo’s Haneda (just one hour and 15 minutes) with the major JAL and ANA carriers offering flights from the early morning until around 7:30 p.m. which makes it a very convenient to travel to Takamatsu or to Tokyo with a limited amount of fuss and none of the waiting nor congestion of the bigger airports.
Takamatsu International Airport offers passengers all the facilities you would expect in a larger airport, too. There are of course ATMs, nursing rooms, internet services, police, in fact anything you may need and with a great selection of shops selling local products for those wanting souvenirs from Kagawa.
Some very comfortable flight waiting rooms complete a modern atmosphere and the beautiful design of the building itself. It is all very open, well laid out and makes things easy to find.
A bus service runs from and to the Takamatsu JR central station taking just over 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions. A service to-and-from the airport from Kotohira is also available (please check the site link). From Takamatsu the fare is ¥4,700 which is a tad expensive for a one-way ticket, sorry to say.
The JR station in neighboring Kochi prefecture also run a bus service to Takamatsu Airport. Access from Takamatsu city is easy. From Takamatsu as there are stops on the way including at Youme shopping center on the central street (Chuo dori) which runs due south to the airport from the city.
The bus service is easy to use and a vending machine with easy instructions is also available to use. Courteous & friendly, many of the staff speak English so you won’t have and trouble here at all.
Across from the airport is the wonderful Kodomo no Kuni (Children’s World) which I wrote about in an earlier blog on this post.
I cannot understand why the prefecture doesn’t promote the Children’s World more than they do as it’s a fascinating place to spend an afternoon with or without children with its I-max theater, mountain bike course, which is a very gentle ride.

The Takamatsu International Airport has a lot of great things to while away the time between flights including a flight simulator and as I’d mentioned some wonderful souvenir shops.
There’s even a ‘dashi on tap’ machine that serves dashi, a traditional and famous condiment. Best of all it’s free ..
OK, that’s about it for this week. I’ll be back with more news about our city soon.

Pat has far too many hobbies which include tennis, playing jazz flutes and saxes, riding bicycles with the Takamatsu Cycling Club all of which his long-suffering family tolerate. Recently he's become interested in painting again. His wife wishes he would put more time in to helping around the house and the garden which he artfully avoids ..."
